Discover JR's latest museum installation at CAC Málaga from June 12th to September 13th. In a solo show entitled UPRISING, JR presents a site-specific video installation derived from his Inside Out Project. Hundreds of Malaguenos were filmed individually doing the same movement, creating a crowd made of a multitude of intimate encounters.
After the book "The Ghosts of Ellis Island", based on JR's UNFRAMED project in the abandoned hospital of Ellis Island and released in April, the collaboration between JR and cartoonist Art Spiegelman takes a new turn: a new lithograph is being released today by our friends from Social Animals! Printed on very old machines in Paris with 11 different colors, this beautiful print is a limited edition of 180.
Get it here.
The French director Agnès Varda, who just received an honorary Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival, and JR have decided to collaborate on a documentary film (26'). The film will be shot early July in the South of France, specifically in the Lubéron where an Inside Out photobooth truck will be used. Agnès Varda will meet and film the participants. Collaborative artworks will be created on site.
The idea of the movie is very recent - so in order to start, JR and Agnès Varda are launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise a minimum to make sure they can start shooting in 3 weeks !
Before the movie gets its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival on April 26th, discover the making of "Les Bosquets" ,The Story of Ladj Ly, by JR. A film by Vincent Lorca.
The film Les Bosquets brings the audience in a place where art and the power of image interweave. Based on the story of Ladj Ly and the performance of the ballet Les Bosquets of New York City Ballet (2014) inspired by the riots in the French suburbs in 2005, JR reveals its experience in the ghetto of Montfermeil where he created his first project, Portrait of a Generation. This film is a continuation of this 10 years project, for which he uses various means of expression and narration: video archives, choreography and testimony. This short film will be presented exclusively in galleries and museum shows.
