"翩然人生: La Vie en Mouvement," Perrotin Shanghai, China

November 12 - December 23, 2025

La Vie en Mouvement, a new solo exhibition by JR, opened at Perrotin Shanghai on November 12, 2025. The show features a large-scale installation spanning a gallery wall and twenty works from his various series with dancers over the past decade.

Side by side with the dancers are works from JR’s pastings at the Louvre. In 2016, and again in 2019, he created large-scale anamorphoses that made I. M. Pei’s famous glass pyramid appear to disappear into the ground. In 2019, hundreds of volunteers worked together on a massive pasting, which slowly faded as visitors walked over it.

The exhibition also revisits JR’s long connection to Le Havre, where his Women Are Heroes project once covered a cargo ship with the eyes of a woman from Kenya. In new images, ballerinas dance among shipping containers, bringing poetry and fragility to an industrial landscape.

More intimate works on wood show dancers resting or curled within boxes, like delicate beings in transit, waiting to emerge.
